EXHIBITION & ACTIVITY CENTRES

Edinburgh Tattoo

Edinburgh Miltary Tattoo
The Royal Mile is also home to a number of interesting cultural exhibitions to suit all tastes:

Tartan Weaving Mill and Exhibition
Scotland is famous for its tartans which originally designated clans or families. At this old Mill you can take an interactive tour to learn about Scotland's national dress. You can try weaving or have picture taken dressed up in a full Scottish outfit (and find out the truth at last about what is under that kilt..).

Spirit of the Tattoo
The Edinburgh Tattoo is the most popular event in the Edinburgh Festival. It took place for the first time in 1950 and has continued each year becoming a more and more spectacular and famous performance as time goes on. At this interactive visitor centre, located in the same building as the Tartan Weaving Mill and Exhibition at the top of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, you can learn about its history and experience some of the highlights, even if you can’t be there on the day.

Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre
Known as “the water of life” whisky is Scotland's national drink. Here you can find out the difference between the various types of whisky and the regions of Scotland where whisky is produced. You can learn about the history of Scotch whisky, and most importantly enjoy a whisky tasting.

Loch Ness Discovery Centre
Difficult to miss because of the Loch Ness monster wandering outside the centre hnading out leaflets, this is Edinburgh's latest visitor centre and will be enjoyed by children and adults alike. It includes facts, illusions, and eye-witness reports of “Nessie”, the famous Scottish lake monster.

Our Dynamic Earth
This exhibition explores the extremes of our planet from the Big Bang to the ice age and has a particularly interesting structure.
